Why We Love Grand Cayman
There are many beautiful Caribbean islands, but Grand Cayman offers something that few others can: the perfect balance of luxury, safety, convenience, and family-friendly activities. The island is exceptionally clean, remarkably safe, and has modern infrastructure that makes traveling with children incredibly easy. Roads are well maintained, restaurants are excellent, healthcare is outstanding, and everything feels organized and welcoming. Unlike some Caribbean destinations that are more rustic or remote, Grand Cayman feels polished while still maintaining its laid-back island charm. Living in California, getting to the Caribbean has always been one of the biggest challenges. Most islands require long travel days with multiple layovers, making them difficult destinations when traveling with children. Fortunately, that has changed. Cayman Airways now offers a nonstop flight from Los Angeles to Grand Cayman, making the journey only about five hours. Suddenly, one of the Caribbean's most beautiful islands has become incredibly accessible for West Coast families.

Seven Mile Beach
The island's crown jewel is Seven Mile Beach, and in my opinion, it's one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Imagine powder-soft white sand, crystal-clear turquoise water, and almost no waves. The water is so calm that it feels like swimming in a giant natural pool, making it ideal for children of all ages. Parents can actually relax while kids spend hours splashing, snorkeling, paddleboarding, or simply floating in the warm Caribbean Sea. I've visited countless beaches around the world, and Seven Mile Beach remains one of my favorites.
Sanaz's tip: The water is so calm it's essentially a giant natural pool — perfect for children who aren't strong swimmers. You'll spend most of your time here rather than at the hotel pool.
Staying at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman
We've stayed at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman multiple times, and it continues to be one of my favorite luxury family resorts anywhere. This is a hotel that truly understands how to combine five-star luxury with thoughtful family experiences. The suites are spacious enough to comfortably accommodate families with multiple children, and the service is exactly what you'd expect from a world-class Ritz-Carlton. The swimming pool isn't enormous, but honestly, it hardly matters. Because Seven Mile Beach is directly outside the hotel and the water is so calm, we spent most of our time at the beach rather than the pool. Throughout the day, the staff constantly surprised our children with little treats. They would walk around offering fresh fruit, popsicles, and other snacks, and many afternoons there were fun stations set up with cotton candy or other sweet treats that instantly became highlights for the kids. It's these thoughtful little touches that make children feel just as special as the adults.
Sanaz's tip: The beach setup at the Ritz is flawless — beach attendants, lounge chairs, and calm water right outside the door. You'll barely need to leave the property.
Dining at the Ritz-Carlton
One of the biggest surprises during our stay was just how exceptional the food was. Dinner at Seven, the hotel's signature restaurant overlooking the beach, quickly became one of our favorite dining experiences on the island. The atmosphere is elegant without feeling overly formal, making it a wonderful choice for families celebrating a special occasion. The hotel's Japanese restaurant, Taikun, is equally outstanding. The sushi was some of the best I've had anywhere — not just in the Caribbean. Every dish was beautifully prepared, incredibly fresh, and consistently memorable. In fact, we loved the food at the Ritz so much that it was often difficult to convince ourselves to leave the resort to try other restaurants. That being said, Grand Cayman has an excellent culinary scene, with everything from casual beachfront cafes serving fresh seafood to upscale fine dining featuring local Caribbean ingredients. For an island of its size, the restaurant scene is surprisingly impressive.
Sanaz's tip: Book a table at Seven for at least one dinner — the beach views at sunset are spectacular and the food genuinely rivals the best restaurants on the island.
Camana Bay
One place that we always enjoy visiting is Camana Bay. This beautiful waterfront town center offers upscale shopping, excellent restaurants, cafes, a movie theater, fountains where children can play, and beautifully landscaped walkways. It has a relaxed yet sophisticated atmosphere that's perfect for spending an afternoon or evening with the family. One evening, while we were having dinner overlooking the marina, we were treated to an outdoor fashion show, making the night feel even more memorable. Whether you're shopping, grabbing ice cream, seeing a movie, or simply strolling along the waterfront, Camana Bay is definitely worth visiting.
Sanaz's tip: Camana Bay is especially lovely in the evening — the waterfront lights up beautifully and the restaurants fill with a relaxed, sophisticated crowd.
Other Things to Do
Although relaxing on Seven Mile Beach is reason enough to visit Grand Cayman, there are plenty of activities for families. One of the island's most famous excursions is Stingray City, where visitors can stand in waist-deep crystal-clear water while friendly southern stingrays swim gracefully around them. It's one of those experiences that children talk about for years afterward. Families can also snorkel vibrant coral reefs, visit Starfish Point, explore the Crystal Caves, or take a boat to Rum Point for a quieter beach experience. Because the island is relatively compact, it's easy to explore several different areas without spending hours in the car.
Sanaz's tip: Book Stingray City as a morning excursion — the water is calmest early in the day and the crowds are smaller before the cruise ship passengers arrive.
A New Luxury Hotel on the Horizon
For years, The Ritz-Carlton has been my clear recommendation for luxury travelers visiting Grand Cayman. However, there is an exciting newcomer on the horizon. The Grand Hyatt Grand Cayman is scheduled to open soon on Seven Mile Beach and promises to bring another exceptional luxury option to the island. With contemporary accommodations, multiple restaurants, expansive pools, and a prime beachfront location, it will certainly be worth considering for future trips. I'll be looking forward to visiting it myself once it opens.

Final Thoughts
There are countless beautiful Caribbean islands, but Grand Cayman continues to be the destination that my family returns to over and over again. The combination of effortless travel from Los Angeles, one of the world's most beautiful beaches, exceptional luxury hotels, outstanding restaurants, family-friendly activities, and a level of safety and cleanliness that is difficult to match makes it truly stand apart. If you're planning your first Caribbean vacation with children — or simply searching for an island where parents can relax just as much as the kids — Grand Cayman is hard to beat. For our family, it remains the gold standard for luxury Caribbean travel, and I have no doubt we'll continue returning for many years to come.
